Many say to eat your vegetables for good health. Sound familiar?
Choosing suitable vegetables could be very difficult and more accessible to say than do. As healthcare professionals, we recommend healthier choices, yet many people do not do it. It is understandable, and to many patients, it is challenging to change a preferred diet. Many patients are having difficulty, and trust me, and you are not alone with this journey.
I can help with a simple guide as follows:
- Start with baby steps. Pick one of your favorite vegetables. Try to eat your favorite vegetable once a day for three days.
- Next, habitually eat another vegetable of your choice for the second or third day.
- Try to mix other vegetables for the fourth or fifth day and alternate to your second and third most preferred or favorite vegetable choices.
I hope this simple guide can help you create a habit of adding a small to moderate quantity of vegetables to your daily meals.
Other creative ways exist to start eating vegetables (Warwick, 2020). However, if you are starting or thinking about changing your diet, I highly recommend starting with small, simple choices to create more satisfying tolerance and longevity than higher consumption and a push to yourself.
